Basically, the coin purse is a small wallet which is used to keep money protected for women. The main reason why it is called a coin purse is because it has a special compartment in which only coins are put in. It has different names in different countries. In some countries it is simply called a purse, while in some countries women call it a handbag. The history of coin purse is very old. It has its presence in the era of 3300 BC with Ötzi the Iceman. He is known as the oldest person to be found with a purse. Even Egyptian hieroglyphs are considered to be among the early examples that have shown the purse like things. In their pictures, the Egyptian people have been seen with pouches worn around their waist. Europe has also witnessed the presence of coin purse in 14th century. It was considered in Europe that the social status was based on the embroidery and the quality of handbags that they carried.

Generally, the women of Europe used to carry purses and that is why they were attached to their girdle. In the next century both males and females started wearing purses. The specialty of these purses was that they were most of the time either finely embroidered or ornamented with precious metals like gold or silver. It was ritual there that men should give their beloved or new brides an embroidered purse as a symbol of love. Lately women started wearing finer dresses. And at the same time they also started wearing their pouches below their skirts. In United States, it is a new fashion these days. As the time passed, the purses became more elaborate and complex. Girls started using fine embroidery and needlework on them. They were even taught these things by their mothers and it was considered that it would help girls to find a good husband. Gradually all these needlework and embroidery gave rise to stitched artwork for the coin purses. In 17th century, a new trend came in the form of men breeches with built in pockets. As a result, men stopped carrying purses and coin purse became a mere commodity for women.

In today’s world, the coin purse has become a very essential accessory for women. There are many good brands like Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Chanel which make women coin purses. Coin purses has now been changed into an accessory to show a woman’s individual style, mood and persona.
