Japanese Coin Purse

Posted by andrew on Wednesday Mar 17, 2010 Under Coin Purse Designs

If you keep your change in your handbag, it will always seem to be laying at the bottom of your bag. That is why a coin purse is used. You can easily put the coins in your coin purse and save yourself the problem of searching for change in your big handbag. A little coin purse can solve this problem. There are different kinds of coin purses in the market. Among them, is the Japanese coin purse. It is smaller in shape and made up using fabrics. It has zipper unlike the most of the other coin purses. You can also sew one by yourself. The things that you need to sew your own Japanese coin purse are ¼ yard outer fabric, ¼ yard of lining fabric, a 6 inches zipper, thread for sewing, scissors and sewing machine.

Following are the steps to make a small and beautiful Japanese coin purse. Take ¼ yards of two contrasting color fabrics. One will be used outside and the other will be used inside the purse. The fabric that will be used outside should be heavier to make the purse more durable. Now lay down these two fabrics on the table itself. First put the lining fabric and then put the outside fabric with the right side up on the table. Now slowly start cutting the fabric in a rectangular shape of 5 inch by 10 inch. The stitching will be done now. But before that fold both the rectangular pieces with the lining fabric on the outside. As a precautionary measure, pin along both pieces so as they can not move and remain in place. Start stitching both the sides. For extra durability and strength backstitch also at the bottom. Take the zipper now and pin it to the outside fabric on a side of your coin purse. Line up the top side of zipper with that one side of your coin purse. Stitch the zipper carefully now on one side and after that on the other side as well.

Now unzip your zipper and turn the coin purse right side out. Do not forget to tuck the excess zipper end into the purse itself. You can stitch that excess zipper to hold it in place. This is finishing part, so perform it watchfully. That is it – you are ready with your Japanese style coin purse. You can use it for yourself or you can present it somewhere else as well. It makes a nice, small gift.
